  • Erica Leather is a master crafts lady. She was wonderfully helpful at picking out the colour of the mat board and frame. She has a fine attention to detail, noticing things that I wouldn’t have given a second thought to, which I’m grateful for because the final product is gorgeous. She also made sure that everything was ready in time for sending the painting off for an exhibition. I won’t hesitate to go back for further framing needs and highly recommend her to others.

Nelson based fine art photography & framing

I seek out beauty in otherwise ordinary and mundane places, from rotten old boats in the harbour to rusty caravans and flaking paint. My photography shows neglected and overlooked objects and environments have hidden beauty and reveal rich and interesting stories of the past.

I have a love of vibrant colours and textures and my art shows a uniquely serendipitous and understated view of New Zealand’s past.

A range of photographic prints are available to brighten up your walls as well as offering a full, custom picture framing service from my studio in Nelson.

Recent Artwork

Dazzle

A recent commission for a client in Wanaka looking for something vibrant and abstract to transform the new living space. This piece captures the detail on an oxidised corrugated fence in Okarito on the West Coast.

The title ‘Dazzle’ is a reference to Dazzle Ships that had their hull’s painted in geometric designs during World War II in an attempt to confuse their attackers. I found the patterns in the image reminiscent of this.

Arid Delta

I came across this giant agave plant during a lockdown walk through Toi Toi. The specimen was rather old and battered looking, but the leaves revealed some fascinating detail. The result has traits of a dry river bed or the roots of a mangrove tree.

This piece was a commission for a client in Dunedin. Their converted warehouse home proved a great fit for this artwork, providing them with some natural colour and an interesting talking point.
